Yogaqua is also known as yoga paddleboard. This method of exercise practices ordinary yoga poses in general. Interestingly, the thing that distinguishes yogaqua from ordinary yoga is its practice, which is on the water.

Yoga is a method of exercise related to meditation, its benefits not only can make the body healthy, but also can calm the mind and relieve stress. This is the reason yoga is good for one’s mental development.

Yoga sports have several types, from Bikram yoga to hatha. Not long ago it was popular among yoga enthusiasts, namely yoga on the water, where they had to stand on a board that floated in the water. This type of yoga practices breathing control while doing yoga poses and maintaining body balance.

The history of Yogaqua

Although it sounds impossible, in fact doing yoga on water is possible.  One of the yoga variations of this sport, created by Sarah Tiefenthaler in November 2010, began with an experiment conducted by Tiefenthaler on a surfboard on Mother’s Beach, Marina Del Rey.

At that time she had just returned from her trainer home in Costa Rica. Tiefenthaler’s experiment was not immediately successful, she continued to try to find the right movement for yoga on the water until she finally found it.

Yoga is a combination of classical techniques and ancient traditions from Hawaii and Peru. The ancient fishermen who sailed from Polynesia to Peru were said to often do this type of yoga.

Usually, this variation of yoga is done on a surfboard above the sea. The challenge is far greater than ordinary yoga. Therefore, it takes practice to balance yourself first on land through yoga movements with a high level of difficulty. To reduce the difficulty, yoga on the water can also be done on a calm water surface like a swimming pool.

Yogaqua in the Swimming Pool

For beginners, this type of yoga should not be done directly in the ocean. You can do floating yoga done on the surface of the pool. Even if it’s still laid, yoga on the pool water is safe enough for beginners to try.

To be more adaptable, you can try basic movements first such as child poses. This is done to make yourself more comfortable in advance with floating yoga, namely yoga on the water using the floating board as a layered mat. Once you get used to it, you can continue with other yoga movements with higher levels of concentration and balance, such as cobra pose, downward facing dog, plank, warrior 1 and 2.

For those of you who can’t swim, you don’t need to worry and still be able to follow this yoga. It’s just recommended not to do it in a deep swimming pool. For yoga beginners who can swim is certainly not a problem.

Yoga on the water can be an alternative to relieve stress because we seem to be forced to focus on one point and breath. Indirect stress levels will decrease when we enjoy breathing and yoga movements. Another advantage of this sport is to form a neutral body, that is, there is a balance between mind, body, and soul.

From the reviews above, this sport sounds exciting and interesting, right? Getting a healthy body does not have to do heavy physical exercise. In fact, sports can also be done in fun and fun ways. You can start a healthy life by practicing yogaqua.
