Maneka Sanjay Gandhi who was born in New Delhi on 26 August 1956 was Minister of the Indian Union Cabinet for the Development of Women & Children in the Government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She is also members of the family from  Nehru Gandhi.

 

She is an animal rights activist, environmental activist, and is a widow of Indian politician Sanjay Gandhi. Maneka Gandhi is a minister in the governments for several years and has written a number of books in the field of welfare, animal etymology and law.

 

Maneka father was an Indian Army officer Lieutenant Colonel Tarlochan Singh Anand and her mother was Amteshwar Anand and Maneka is from the Sikh family. She attended Lawrence School and then went on to Lady Shri Ram College that was special for Women. Maneka then went on to study German at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India.

 

The story of how Maneka Gandhi first met Sanjay Gandhi was really sweet. They met at a cocktail party on the wedding of Maneka’s uncle son in 1973. Maneka eventually married Sanjay, son of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi one year later on 23 September 1974.

 

Maneka’s husband Sanjay plunged into politics and Maneka was always seen with him almost on his journey and also often helped him in the campaign. Many people believe that Sanjay Gandhi had full control over his mother and that the government was run by Prime Minister House rather than Prime Minister Office.

 

Maneka Gandhi was the founder of  Surya news magazine that at the end was playing some main role in the promotion of the Congress party after its 1977 defeat election.

 

She gave birth to a son in 1980 named Feroze taken from her grandfather’s name. Her mother-in-law added the name Varun. What a pity because at the time Maneka was twenty-three years old and her son was only 100 days old, when her husband, Sanjay, died in an air crash.

 

Maneka Gandhi is the leader of environmental and animal rights in India and thanks to that, she has received international acclaim and praise. She was appointed the chair of the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Animal Experiments in 1995. Under her direction and supervision, CPCSEA members undertook inspection of the laboratory where animals have been used for scientific research.

 

She has filed a Public Interest Litigation on the substitution of action rather than the felony in exchange for a sterilization program. In addition, unregulated air rifle sales are also in revisions and restrictions on mobile zoo gardens.

 

She currently chairs the Jury to award the best environmental award from an organization of-of the International Energy Globe Foundation base. In addition, Maneka is a member of the Eurosolar Council and the Wuppertal Institute, Germany.

 

In 1992, Maneka Gandhi started the organization of People for Animals and now is the largest organization for animal welfare in India. Maneka Gandhi is also a protector of the International Animal Rescue.

 

She is not a vegan but she advocates this lifestyle on the basis of ethics and health. Another activity is to host and broadcast the weekly TV program “Heads and Tails”. This program highlights the suffering inflicted on animals due to their commercial exploitation. Maneka Gandhi also wrote a book of the same title.

 

Maneka Gandhi also performs other activities such as cast in the documentary “A Delicate Balance”. The things that Maneka Gandhi does are worth the thumbs up and should be imitated by us due to her devotion to the environment.
