Preserving the forest is important because it has many functions both for humans and also to the earth. This area is one of the most important aspects of the Earth’s biosphere. It can be said forests are supporting the lives of creatures that exist on earth.
Forests cover one-third of the land on earth. This green region provides important organic infrastructure for some of the planet’s most density. There are so many species that are supported by forests and provide 1.6 billion human livelihoods. Humans as the most perfect living beings have a responsibility to preserve the forest.
Preserving the Forest is Important
Although forests play an important role in human survival, sometimes forests are underestimated. Often human actions hurt and damage forests, such as burning forests, changing the functions, illegal logging, and other destructive activities continue to occur until the quantity and quality of the forest declines.
The forest area becomes decreases. In fact, humans are quite dependent on the green area. Human needs are less supported by forests. Apart from a need, the existence of the forest is very necessary and important to be preserved. Here is the reason why forests need to be preserved.
Reasons for Preserving the Forest
- Helps humans breathe
Trees and plants that live in forests ecosystems and they can absorb carbon dioxide, also produce oxygen. The resulting product is what humans use to breathe.
One adult and the single leafed tree are estimated to be able to supply oxygen for one day for 2-10 people. Besides forests, phytoplankton can also provide oxygen to the earth. These microscopic plants are more productive and can provide half of the earth’s oxygen, but still cannot defeat forests which are still the main source of air quality.
- Store water
The forest is able to store water in the roots of the trees. The water that falls when the rain comes does not directly flow into the estuary or river but is absorbed into the ground. This happens because the soil surface is covered by plant vegetation.
They are able to absorb and store large amounts of water in their roots. If the vegetation decreases, then rainwater will immediately fall to the surface of the soil and can cause a large flow of water surface. As a result, the rain is not absorbed or stored in the soil so it can cause flooding.
- Can prevent natural disasters
In connection with the reason in number 2 that the forest acts as a water storage, if the population decreases, two things that might happen are excess water at a short time (when it rains) and lack of water during the dry season.
As mentioned earlier, that water that is not absorbed will risk flooding and allow landslides to occur. While the second disaster occurs because there are no water reserves that can be stored in the soil during the dry season due to a lack of vegetation above ground level.
- Soothe the Earth
Temperatures on earth are increasingly heating up due to global warming. The ice at the poles continues to melt because of the impact. One solution to this problem is to plant trees while maintaining the existing forest area because the air from the tree can cool the temperature of the earth.
That is some reasons why forests are so important to the earth and all its inhabitants. There are many more roles held by forests for life on this planet. This green area can be a support for the health of the earth which makes the earth worth living in. Therefore, let’s preserve the forest and keep it from extinction.
