The results of this survey were announced by the Minister of Housing, Hardeep Singh Puri a few months ago on May 16, 2018.

What is Swachh Survekshan 2018

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) organized Swachh Survekshan under the sponsorship of the Swachh Bharat Mission to continue checking sanitation and the levels in various cities throughout India. The main focus of this survey is to foster a spirit of competition among cities and offer a thorough assessment of their sanitation status.

Swachh Survekshan 2018 comes into effect in 4,203 cities across India starting January 4, 2018, until March 10, 2018. The analysis is made based on the feedback received from citizens based on data submitted by civilian bodies for sanitation hygiene and what is their daily experience.

Survey data is collected from three main sources, where direct feedback from citizens and the performance of the Swachhata Application (citizen complaint mobile application) are the most important.

List of the top 3 cleanest cities in India

  1. Indore

Indore has once again emerged as India’s cleanest city for the second time after the 2017 survey. Surely there are no shortcuts and takes time to improve, but the long and difficult road finally won Indore the honor for the award.

All credit is certainly thanks to the constant efforts of the swachhata workers and the people surrounding who have been guarding the city of Indore to always look neat and clean. About 4000 public toilets were made and more than 1800 workers were recruited to back up the movement. The result is certainly really good.

  1. Bhopal

This city has been included as the second cleanest city in India for two consecutive years. This is certainly due to a combination of awareness, application of the law and some of the thoughts of a smart government authority in Bhopal that helped the city to rise above 2018. What an achievement to be proud of.

  1. Chandigarh

The beautiful city of Chandigarh has been declared the third cleanest city in the country according to a survey under Swachh Survekshan 2018. There are 25 park development communities in Chandigarh that create compost from their green waste. The city has made a lot of efforts to win back its place as one of the cleanest cities in India in recent years.

India is indeed a country that is known to have problems with sanitation, therefore the issue has made Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi think of movements to make the country overcome the problem. Of course, the government has an important role but an active society is also helping the government program to run smoothly to become the cleanest city in India.
